it was only a matter of time before lucifer got his way with his parents. they just wanted him out of their lives, and that wasn't going to happen without lily coming along with him. every day, he sent a new letter along with his owl to his father. you're not going to keep her from me was usually the basis of what luce had to say, though he found a new way to blackmail his father in each and every letter. he hadn't told lily about the fact that he was conversing with their father, doing everything he could to keep lily in his life and not have to deal with their parents. the newest response was just that of what lucifer was looking for.
fine, lucifer. just leave me and your mother alone. come get your stuff, as well as your sister's, at the end of the year. if you get the police involved in any way, i will hunt you down. don't you doubt that i won't. stop blackmailing me and grow the fuck up, lucifer. we're done here. -alexander.
not a "love, dad" or anything at the end of it, and luce didn't expect anything more than the man's first name. he ran down the stairs from the owlery, the smile on his face starting to hurt his cheeks. he fumbled on the last couple steps, regaining his balance just to continue running before he made it to the library, where he had asked lily to wait for him. he looked around, not able to see her. he was frantic now, walking through the tables and shelves as quickly as he could before he finally found her. "lilypad!" he said, a little loud he guessed from the glares he got. luce flipped off the group of ravenclaws glaring at him, then looked back to lily. "i have good news." his smile was brighter than it ever had been before, and his cheeks were ready to burst they hurt so much from it. but he didn't care. he was too excited to tell her.

arriving earlier than expected, lily had chosen to wander through the endless bookshelves instead of boring herself at a study table all alone. after an hour or so, she'd lost herself in the curious case of hippogriff migrating patterns. it wasn't until she was almost completely immersed in the pages that she was scared out of her trance by a familiar voice. "lilypad!" with a slight jump, the girl snapped the book closed and turned just in time to see lucifer jogging up to her, the smile she loved taking up almost his entire face. "good news?" she asked, hands fluttering to his neck. since the other night, the small girl found it hard to be near him without having some sort of physical contact, no matter how small it was. "what is it, lucey? are we going to paris?" a giggle chimed it's way from her lips, dancing about them as she shook with excitement. it was rare that they received any good news, but when they did, it never disappointed.

happiness was a rare thing for the burton siblings, up until recently. lucifer hadn't given people as many rude remarks as usual, because he was usually just dazed off, thinking of ways to make lily happy or things that they could do together. between every class he practically ran down the halls to meet lily and walk her to her next class, and each day at the end of classes, he would meet up with her and come up with something fun to do, whether it was as simple as watching the sunset or exploring the castles towers or dungeons, luce was fine doing anything as long as lily was by his side. he was even fine just sitting in the common room in front of the fire, if that was what lily wanted. and each night, he would bring her with him to the dormitory while everyone was sleeping, and curl up happily with her in his arms. nobody questioned, they just judged silently amongst themselves.
luce placed his hands on lily's hips and lifted her off the ground, spinning her around before putting her back down. "we're going anywhere we want to, lilypad!" he exclaimed, unable to contain a single bit of his excitement. he figured he wasn't making any sense, but luce's mind was everywhere with happiness that he didn't even know where to start. he kissed lily on the lips, calming himself down enough to explain. "i've been writing them, mom and dad," he started, swallowing hard. "they've given me permission to pick up your things as well as mine at the end of the year.." luce's smile which had faded just lightly, grew again. "we can live anywhere we want, lils. they're out of our lives. it's just you and me. of course you're going to be able to finish up school here, and i can find a job somewhere close by so i can visit.. and i'll write you every day, just like i had planned.. but, we can make our own home. just you and me.." he beamed, eyes sparkling wildly, excitedly. he kissed her on the forehead, cheeks, nose, all over her face before once more on the lips. he just couldn't contain himself.

[/style][style=width:400; height:25; border-left: #0B6121 solid 10px; border-right: #0B6121 solid 10px; font-size: 8px; color:ffffff; margin-top: -15px; line-height: 10px;] lily had never experienced anything as remarkable as being with lucifer. over the years, she'd been on a few dates, but none that made it past the flashbacks and night terrors she'd learned to live with. with luce, everything was different - it was easy and natural, just like breathing. with anyone else, something was always missing. there was no spark, no warm buzzing feeling that burned under her skin with every touch. a feeling, she'd noticed, that only ever burst through her when she was by her brother's side. sure, it may have been unnatural to some, but it wasn't something that lilith had ever really found unnerving. to the girl, it was normal, and even through all the doubt, she knew it was what she'd always wanted. the fact that it had finally become a reality was like waking up on christmas morning as a little kid - all starry eyes, fiery excitement, and energy. luce knew how to handle her, and she knew how to make him happy. really, there was no other option. lucifer and lilith were perfect for one another.
letting out a small squeal, lily wrapped her thin arms around his neck, eyes crinkling at the corners as he twirled her. "we're going anywhere we want to, lilypad!" tilting her head to the side curiously, lily met his lips briefly with a smile and hooked her fingers in the loops of his pants. with a pause, she stared up at him in surprise. "you... you spoke to mum and dad?" brows pulling together in worry, the girl bit her lip as she listened to the rest of his story. "but dad..." she started, watching as his smile faded. dropping her grip on his belt loops, lily started to wring her hands together nervously, mind reeling. "it's just you and me." eyes snapping up, she searched his face, unsure if all of this was real. at his reassuring smile, the girl's tense shoulders began to relax, and she took a long, deep breath. "we can make our own home. just you and me.." hands shaking, no longer out of worry, the girl stepped forward and buried her head into his chest, hands gripping tightly at his shirt. "i can't - i..." lily could hardly form the words, face flustered and happy. smiling, she lifted her hands to his face, letting the kiss linger another few moments before he broke away. at this point, she didn't care if the headmaster knew about them. they were finally free, and it was all because of lucey. "i love you more than rainbows, lollipops, and sunshine." she whispered, a few happy tears rolling down her cheeks.

luce knew at some point in his life, he would have to speak to his parents. would it be for the funeral of one of them, or what, the day would come where something would force them together. but the fact was, at the end of the year, luce didn't have to worry about the beatings, and he didn't have to sit in a hole that was his own pad and not know how their father and mother were treating lily. he could protect her now more than ever by taking her away from that home, and that's just what he had sworn he would dedicate his life to. from the very first day lily was brought home, he knew in his little heart that she was all for him, and nobody else. he just didn't know exactly how until recently. the tingles of each touch, butterflies that nobody had ever been able to give him, the adrenaline that he had rushing through his veins at the thought of having a home just for themselves to be whoever they wanted and do whatever they wanted. of course there would be small bumps along the way, but luce didn't care about those. he was just happy he had gotten his way in saving his lilypad from returning back to that horrid home.
luce would walk through fire for lily, and he always made sure that she knew it. talking to their father about anything was practically the same thing, and luce was lucky to have distance keeping him safe from the beating that was sure to have come with luce standing up for himself and lily's safety. he had never spoken to his father with threats before then, and now that he had, he felt on top of the world. luce wiped lily's tears from her cheeks, kissing her on the forehead for a long moment. "i love you more than anything in the universe. always have, and always will." lily was the one person that luce had ever really known how he felt about, and even if that love hadn't always been what it was now, he knew that it was true. what anyone else thought was just unimportant, including if the headmaster knew. luce picked lily up by the waist again, but this time he wrapped his arms around her as he did so and he held her close, kissing her once gently on the neck. this time, he didn't put her down as quickly. he looked up at her with a giant grin. "we're free, lils. free as birds." he practically sang his words, which was something new all together. he felt like a whole new person, and he was pretty sure he liked it.

[/style][style=width:400; height:25; border-left: #0B6121 solid 10px; border-right: #0B6121 solid 10px; font-size: 8px; color:ffffff; margin-top: -15px; line-height: 10px;] the prospect of living away from home was like a dream to lilith. the idea had crossed her mind several times in the past few years, but it was something that had always been pushed back and ignored. for a long while, they girl had believed it was an impossibility - she was convinced her parents would trap them both in that sick, twisted house until they dropped dead. she should have known lucifer would come up with something, though, because he always did and it was one of the many reasons why she loved him. "iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou." she whispered, a smile pulling at the corners of her lips. now that it was all coming together, lily was overwhelmed with joy. everything was finally turning around, and it was hard to believe it had happened in such a short time. she wasn't about to doubt any of it though, because if she did, a part of her was scared she'd lose everything.
wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she giggled as luce's lips pressed against her neck, a trail of goosebumps snaking over her skin. from that moment on, lily promised herself she'd try and be his hero. it was about time, anyway. he'd done so much for her, it was time she flipped the switch. "we're free to be whoever, and whatever we want." grinning from ear to ear, lily leaned down and kissed him. fingers locking together at the base of his neck, she rested her forehead against his and licked at her lips. "i'm going to dedicate my life to make you happy, no matter what." she whispered, kissing the tip of his nose. "even if it that means scaring the faeries from our garden, i'll do it."

[style=width:400px; height:215px; background:url(http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2749/4152689028_357ff85806_z.jpg)] luce wasn't quite sure if it shocked him that his father had said yes. in the end, he knew that his parents had only had children so that they could have power over someone. his father had just been too proud to give in to lucifer's request right away. he wanted to see his son beg, even if it was only through letter. what mr. burton didn't understand was just how much luce had grown in a matter of a month or so at hogwarts. he wasn't the same scared little boy that he was when he was in that home. through letter, luce didn't have to worry about his father hurting him, or worse, lily. he had the upper hand: luce was more educated, and he wasn't constantly drunk so he could remember spells if he had to. he had never once used magic on his parents, but his father definitely had used it on him many times, if only just to drag him back when the man was too drunk to go stumbling after him.
but now, he didn't have to worry about that. luce had been saving money he found or acquired from other students all around hogwarts for years. by now, he was sure that he had enough for a small home for him and lily. he'd find one with a garden, just for her, and surprise her with it at the end of the year. he knew just how he was going to be spending his random free time that he found, now, when he wasn't with lily. he smiled at her words, nuzzling his nose against hers. "sounds wonderful, lilypad." he laughed lightly. "though, i wouldn't ask you to chase the faeries off. i know how much you love them." luce did a little spin and placed lily down. "now, what do you say we find something to do that's not got us all cooped in the library?" he asked, looking at the stares they were getting and laughing lightly as he looked back down to lily.
