hey honey you can be my drug you could be my new prescription tag: CARTER Raelin loved fall, she loved when it was warm without being unbearably hot. Fall was easily her favorite seasons, everything changed colors and began to slowly cool down after a hot summer. She would be sad to see it go once winter came, which is why she was spending as much time as she could outside. This also included taking her studies outdoors. It wasn't the most ideal set up, sitting under a tree near the great lake with her books open and notes spread out. Every time a gust of wind came something blew away or came close to it, she'd had to sort of jump forward a few times to catch things before they were gone. Despite the pains of studying outside she was loving it, it was beautiful out and she was going to take advantage of every fall day that didn't have rain.
This was her fifth year at Hogwarts, meaning she would have her OWLs this year. She found herself extremely nervous about them, she wanted to do well to make her parents proud of her, not that they weren't already proud of her. Rae hadn't really disappointed her parents much in her life, she wanted to keep it that way. Her teachers were already started with tests and essays, she didn't know how she was going to make it to the end of the year, everything would only continue to get harder.
It did no good to dwell on the negative thoughts though, so getting her focus she propped her book up on her knees, placing a piece of parchment over it so she would have something solid to write over. Just as she went to write the first would a gust of wind blew by, quickly she dropped her quill and grabbed at her notes that had been neatly stacked in a pile but were now more of a mess of parchment. Holding onto them she noticed one blowing away in the grass. "Shit," she muttered, trying to gather everything together so she could go run after the stray piece of parchment.

YOU’RE A GOLDMINE BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS LIKE SUNSHINE AND I'M BETTING ON YOU AND I carter was out on yet another one of his famous adventures. he had never been one for sitting around, even if it was to study. he had found himself out by the lake, skipping rocks into the water and staring at some cute girls that was out and about, who just so happened to be giving him flirty glances. he wasn't sure why, but he just wasn't in the mood to flirt. it was a rare occasion, but it happened sometimes. carter was just enjoying some "me time" as he liked to put it. though it was always amusing to watch girls fight with their friends over him, car just wasn't really in the mood. he focused on skipping his rocks, and when he looked to the side of him, he noticed a piece of paper blowing his way. he dropped his rocks onto the ground and picked it up, laughing when he saw the name scribbled on top of it.
he didn't even have to look to make sure it was his sister, because he knew she was outside as much as she possibly could be on days like this. "you should invest in a paperweight or something, rae. oh! i know what i'm getting you for christmas, now!" his smile proved he was just kidding about the present part, but he was serious about her finding something to hold down her papers. he walked over and handed her the parchment. "too much studying is going to make your brain fry, y'know." carter glared towards a guy that was walking past and looking at rae, who just continued on his way when he noticed carter. he knew his sister was old enough to date, but he also knew how skeezy a lot of the guys at school were. protective older brother, to the rescue.

Rae had just finished getting her things together and was about to take off after her lost notes when she heard her brother's familiar voice. Looking up at her big brother, she rolled her eyes at his gift comment. "If that's all your getting me it better be a covered in diamonds or something," she replied with a teasing smile, really though she expected something much better than a simple paper weight for the holidays. As he moved to stand next to her, she took her parchment from him, stuffing it into one of her books. After trying to quickly shove everything together nothing was organized anymore, which caused slight frustration for her, it was much harder to do work when you couldn't find anything. With a sigh she began stuffing all her things back into her school bag which was sitting next to her, glancing back up at Carter as he spoke again.
"I'm studying just enough, if I didn't study I'd probably flunk everything and then I would no longer be the favorite child. Clearly we can't let that happen." Raelin smirked up at him, their parents didn't pick favorites but she enjoyed acting like she was the favorite. The glare he shot at the guy walking by hadn't been missed by her, she'd been looking up at him when he'd blatantly stared at the kid. Raising an eyebrow, she watched as the boy continued walking without a second glance their way. "I suppose I should start glaring at the group of girls behind you? They keep staring over here and it would only be fair."
While she had little interest in whoever the guy walking by had been she always got a little annoyed when her played the over protective role. Carter could be such a hypocrite, she couldn't even remember all the girls that had been in and out of his life but god forbid she even talk to one guy. It wasn't even like she flirted with a ton of guys or even showed interest in many of them, she was waiting for someone to sweep her off her feet and be her knight in shining armor. Safe to say she was expecting to have to wait a while before she found someone worth her interest. Despite having a level head, in her opinion, her brother seemed to think he needed to scare off every guy who even attempted to be her friend. Of course she wouldn't know the difference between a nice guy and one who was only playing nice, but in her mind she thought she had great judgment.

YOU’RE A GOLDMINE BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS LIKE SUNSHINE AND I'M BETTING ON YOU AND I carter rolled his eyes dramatically at his sister's response. "it's not my duty to get you diamonds.. or any boy's duty when you're fifteen, for a matter of fact. that can be dad's job until you're thirty." he smiled, winking lightly. carter had told their parents that he didn't want rae to date until she was thirty once she hit thirteen, and since then it had become a joke in the bryant household. he was always going to look out for his little sister, and in his eyes no boy was good enough for her. carter didn't want to be the one to have to punch someone in the face for breaking his sister's heart, but he would, even if the guy was one of his friends.
a small laugh slipped off his lips. "you're going to lose that position to me if you don't learn how to have a little fun and excell academically. i'm a triple threat, haven't you heart? brains, looks, and intelligence." though he was laughing while doing so, carter flexed dramatically. he knew he wasn't the buffest guy around, but he was alright with that. his looks seemed to do him pretty well in the relationship department, whether it be for a real relationship or just something physical. "go right ahead, pipsqueak. i already tried to make 'em leave me alone, but.. what can i say? i'm just a stud." carter smirked, running a hand through his hair.
it was in the older brother job description to be protective of his little sister. when it came down to it at the end of the day, though, carter just wanted raelin to be happy. if that meant going through heartbreak once or twice in the process, he would be there as a shoulder to cry on, and a fist for the guy to "run into accidentally" depending on how hurt she was. any guy who was willing to put up with carter asking him a million questions and riding his ass about every detail of every date with rae for the first couple of weeks, would get carter's approval. until then, he was alright with just making rae think he was being over protective. he was just trying to make sure she found the right guy, that was all. he didn't want her to end up with someone.. well, someone like him, to be brutally honest.

Raelin sighed dramatically at his response, she knew the whole thirty thing was a joke but she was pretty certain her brothers and father wouldn't object if she waited till then to start dating. Honestly, she was beginning to think they'd be happy if she decided to join a convent, no boys for the rest of her life. She didn't understand the double standard, why her brother's had been able to date around but they didn't like the idea of her dating one guy. "You just better get me something better than a paper weight," she mumbled with a small pout.
She scrunched up her nose as he said he was a triple threat, oh the ego. "Well brains and intelligence fall under the same category so that knocks you down to a double threat, but I'm not sure I'd use either one of those to describe you." Rae could also comment that he didn't have looks either but that was easily disputed by the amount of girls chasing after him. Personally she didn't really understand, not that she thought badly of Carter but everyone knew how he was with girls, it made no sense for them to still want him. Then again she'd never really had a guy attempting to charm her because most of them didn't like the way her brother would look at them, or so she hoped. If it wasn't because of him then that would mean she wasn't likeable, which she hoped wasn't the case.
Peering around him, Raelin eyed the girls for a moment. There was no way she was going to get them to leave, she was far from intimidating. She turned her attention back to him, tilting her head back to look up at him. "If you think I need to have some fun then maybe you should spend some time entertaining me instead of flirting with every girl who passes by." she suggested with a grin, while he may get on her nerves they actually got along really well and she liked spending time with him. "Only if you stop talking about what a 'stud' you are though," she added quickly, leaving out the part that she was especially grossed out about them after overhearing girls gush about how hot her brother was, that would just inflate his ego even more.

YOU’RE A GOLDMINE BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS LIKE SUNSHINE AND I'M BETTING ON YOU AND I carter didn't take many things seriously, other than keeping his family safe. he wouldn't admit to it, but carter really would let her date, unless he knew the guy was someone like him. sure, every guy probably deserved a chance, but carter wasn't about to let his sister become a tally on some guy's list. apollo's tragedy should have had some sort of effect on carter's whoring himself out, but it hadn't. instead, it just proved that he needed to be out enjoying life rather than settling down. he wanted to explore the world and have fun with life, rather than be stuck in some dead end relationship. he rolled his eyes, smirking at rae's small pout. "i'll figure something out, pipsqueak. you know i never disappoint."
when it came to presents, carter usually went all out with those that he was close with, so in other words his family. he usually just got whatever girl he was dating some totally unoriginal gift like a stuffed animal or something. carter laughed, shrugging. "you know what i meant." carter had brains, but it wasn't like it was something that he flaunted. sometimes his ego got in the way of proving it, anyway. so he just kept his grades average and avoided attention of the professors. nerds didn't get the girls during the teenage years. besides, he didn't really want to have teachers pushing him towards furthering his education.
carter shrugged a bit. "not my fault they follow me around." he laughed a bit and a devious grin slid over his mouth. "may i?" he took her bag and put it down on the ground, then picked rae up and threw her over his shoulder like he used to when they were younger. "y'know.. you've gotten a lot heavier since i did this two years ago." he laughed, bent his knees a bit so he could pick up the bag, throwing it over his free shoulder. "to hogsmeade we go! oh wait. did you want to walk?" he laughed and started to walk, ready to put her down if she asked.

She brushed off him calling her pipsqueak, she was used to his comments that made her feel like she was five, they didn't bother her as long as he didn't do it in front of other people. When they were around people she didn't want to be treated like a little kid, then no one would ever few her as mature young woman. Rae was in a bit of a rush to be more grown up, probably because she was constantly feeling like the baby of the family. She couldn't wait the two years it would take for her to be finished with school and moving on with her life, starting her career and having her own family. Except she had no idea what she wanted to do after school, she was too busy dreaming about her future to take the time to figure out what she really wanted.
Raelin also thought she was extremely mature for her age, that she knew everything and was too smart to make a ton of mistakes. It was something a lot of teenagers thought, of course they were wrong. All of them were going to make a million more mistakes in life, even when you're older you continue learning and messing up. The fact that she didn't know she was going to make many more mistakes just showed she wasn't as mature as she'd like to think, she was a bit naive when it came to certain things in life no matter how much she acted like she knew it all. This is why she was more lucky than she knew to have two older brothers close by looking out for her. In her mind she didn't need them, she loved having them around but they didn't need to be so protective. In reality she had so much to learn and they would be there to help her with her mistakes.
When he took her bag she raised an eyebrow, before yelping loudly as he picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder"HEY!" she shouted in offensive to the heavy comment. "I am not that much heavier!" Raelin supposed she weighed more than she had at thirteen but her body had changed and matured a bit, even if she didn't have any impressive curves. She let out an exasperated sigh as he began walking, smacking at his back decently hard in her opinion but to him it probably felt like a massage. "Yes please, I don't want everyone in school to see you carrying me around like I'm five," she replied, although she was smiling as she stared down at the grass below them. "Plus, I might get motion sickness and puke all down your back." She didn't think she'd really get sick but it was a funny thought.

YOU’RE A GOLDMINE BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS LIKE SUNSHINE AND I'M BETTING ON YOU AND I who carter bryant was around his family and who he was around other people made it seem as if he was two completely different people. he was caring and protective, and quite the jokester when he was with his siblings and parents, and he didn't have to hold it all together all the time. that wasn't nearly even close to who he was when he was around other people. people that didn't know how messed up he was after apollo had lost his girlfriend. when he was around other people, carter always had everything figured out and he held himself high and mighty. he was fliratious and courageous, the boy who was going to go far in life with his travels around the entire world. his commitment issues to his family was just carter getting bored with a girl because she wasn't enough for him to the rest of the school.
nobody quite knew him like his siblings, who could see right through him. though if they ever acknowleged that he was as messed up as he really was, he would threaten to kick their asses in a second. carter didn't like to admit that he was broken, he was much too proud for that. that's why he tended to focus on apollo and rae when he was around them, rather than himself. he knew neither of his siblings liked to see him hopping from girl to girl. but through it all, carter did know that rae liked to pretend she was more mature than she really was, and apollo liked to pretend he was holding himself together a lot more than he really felt on the inside. that's why he gave rae space when she needed it to figure things out on her own, but he was still protective, and why he didn't push apollo to talk about what happened to mel.
the pounding on his back made carter laugh, his laugh bouncing in loudness with each pound. "says you," he teased, though he knew that she was right. she had always been pretty skinny, and that was why he was especially protective with guys and rae. carter sighed and set her down, ruffling her hair up a bit. "you're so gross." though, as he said it, carter was smiling. he knew that rae would never throw up on his back, but it was still a gross thought to have. a shiver shook down his spine. "i'd have to throw you in the lake if you would have, though."

Rae pouted slightly at his little retort before he set her down, scrunching her nose when he ruffled her hair, running her fingers through it to smooth it out again. She wasn't obsessed with how she looked but she didn't want to have bedhead in the middle of the day. In retaliation she quickly reached up and ruffled at his hair, except it looked perfectly fine when ruffled which wasn't very satisfying to her. Instead she settled with sticking her tongue out at him. She wasn't sure if it was because he treated her like she was five or because he was her big brother but she always acted like more of a child around him than anyone else. Of course a part of her might have been trying to prove she was more grown up around everyone who wasn't her family.
"I'm gross? Have you seen your room back at home? You're disgusting," she teased, moving to walk beside him toward Hogsmeade now that she was back on her two feet. Teenage boys were gross, that was something she'd learned from Apollo before he moved out on his own and something she saw with Carter over breaks when they were home. She didn't know if they were worse or better than the average teenage boy, but they were sloppy enough for her liking, she preferred keeping everything extremely organized and clean. Sometimes she could be a bit of clean freak and might be a little too over organized at times but at least she could easily find everything when she needed it.
"You'd be throwing yourself into the lake to clean off," she added with a grin, thinking it would have been pretty funny except for the part where she would be grossed out and feel sick afterward. Luckily she felt perfectly fine, which meant she was going to want to fulfill her sweet tooth once they got to Hogsmeade. "So, want to buy me an ice cream when we get there?" Rae asked, grinning over at him and giving him big puppy dog eyes. Money wasn't something she ever had, she was fifteen which meant no job and therefore no income of any sort. For the holidays she would save up her change each time her parents gave her money as use that for gifts or have to be creative by making some sort of free present.

YOU’RE A GOLDMINE BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS LIKE SUNSHINE AND I'M BETTING ON YOU AND I the fact that carter could be more comfortable and like himself around rae, and have her joke back and forth with him, always seemed to help. no matter how much they bickered, he really loved his little sister to death and would do anything for her, even if it meant backing off a guy or even just leaving her alone for a day or so after a fight. not many people saw the caring side of carter, because he had problems letting people in. he was a complete commitment phobe, and had yet to find a single reason why he shouldn't be terrified of it in the first place. he had never been given a reason to be scared of it until apollo lost mel, but it had always been there. his parents were nowhere near divorce, he was close with his siblings, he really did care when it came down to it.. yet he was terrified of falling in love, or even letting someone have the chance to truly love him.
carter rolled his eyes. he wasn't that sloppy, though he wasn't a complete neat freak. sure, things laid around on his floor and he never made his bed unless he was changing the sheets completely, but it wasn't like he left dirt laundry lying around. most other teenage guys were a hundred times worse than him, he knew that. "you haven't seen dirty until you've entered the boys dormitories. which i hope you never did." he glared for a second before softening his look again. he wrinkled his nose, but shrugged, knowing she was right about him jumping into the water if she'd gotten sick on him. money never was hard to come by for carter. he did random odd jobs for people from time to time, and he got a pretty decent allowance from their parents since he was going to be graduating at the end of the year. they always saved money for rae, but only carter knew about it, because he'd chipped in a few times as part of holiday presents. "i'm feeling generous today.. so sure, why not. you're lucky i'm nice sometimes." he grinned, looking over at her and resisting the laugh that was ready to escape.

Raelin grinned when he mentioned the boys dorms, shrugging a shoulder. "Maybe I have, maybe I haven't," she teased before shaking her head, really she had no interest in going into the boys dormitories. Even if she was looking for a private place with a boy it wouldn't be there, she could have assumed it would be messy and there were probably better places to snog. Of course that was the only reason for privacy she could think of, she was aware of other things but considering she hadn't even conquered her first kiss yet they were far from her mind. It was weird that she was the sister of Carter and Apollo, they were both extremely popular around with the ladies and Rae was pretty much unannotated by the boys around her. She hadn't found any guy that she wanted to be noticed by but still a little attention might have been nice sometimes.
"Good, you can be nice to make up for calling me fat," she replied with a nod, before furrowing her brow as she thought it over. "Making you buy me ice cream doesn't help my argument that I'm not fat, does it?" she asked with a small frown. Raelin wasn't worried that she was actually fat, she was just annoyed that she was giving him reason to tease her about it. "Oh well, it's too good for me to not want some," she added with a shrug, loosing her frown and replacing it with a smile. She was too much of a chocoholic to not get something chocolate while they were there and ice cream sounded perfect. Honestly, she had been having far too much candy when she visited Apollo so something other than chocolate bars was preferred.
As they neared the end of the path and entered Hogsmeade, Rae looked over at Carter with a smile before glancing behind them happy to see no one had follow them, or rather her brother. It was sort of hard to have family time when girls kept staring at them, very very annoying.
