mason wasn't sure exactly how to go about explaining just how much alice had been on his mind since he had called her a "great friend." so, like every other situation that he couldn't get himself to explain in a regular conversation, mason had spent the last few days writing and rewriting a song about five times. he finally decided to cut out alice's name from it all together, because he figured if she really just didn't feel the same way, he had an out that way. he wasn't sure why he was so nervous, but he was. mason plucked at the strings on his guitar as he sat on his bed in the dormitory. it was finally the weekend, which meant no classes. so, he had asked alice to go to lunch with him in hogsmeade for food and butterbeer. but first, he had to sing her the song. and to do that, he had to manage to get himself out of bed, first.
mason took the fastest shower he had ever taken in his life, then spent the time actually getting his hair to go in the right manner. he got dressed in a t-shirt, hoodie, and jeans, and was all set to go. guitar slung over his shoulders and nova walking next to him, mason headed out of the gryffindor common room and up towards the ravenclaw tower. he couldn't actually enter, but he had promised alice he would meet her outside the entrance to her common room so that they could walk to hogsmeade together. he loved walking in weather like it was. cool, but not cold, and leaves crackling under his feet. fall was an organized mess, just like mason, and that was why it had always been his favorite season.
he looked down at nova nervously. "do you think she's going to like the song, noe?" he asked the cat, who purred in response. mase took that as a good sign, and let himself relax a little bit. it wasn't technically a date, but it sure felt like one. mason was just as nervous as he would be on a date, but ten times more so because he was going with alice. but the fact that he was going to be with alice should have just been another reason to not be nervous. the girl had known him since he was a dorky, prepubescent eleven year old who got his things knocked all over the train station when he ran into her. but today just felt different. he wanted to impress her, and he didn't quite know why. mason stepped off of the stair case and stood, leaning against the wall between two pictures as he waited for alice to emerge from the ravenclaw common room.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice had ended that day via going into the girls dorm and taking a rather long, warm, shower. She didn't know what to think in regards to Mason's statement. Nor did she have any idea as to how she was going to tell him about her feelings. Upon leaving the shower, the young woman hadn't opened her books, but instead opted to crawl into bed with her knees up to her chest and think. What if he doesn't like me in that way? What if I am simply his best friend. Nothing more, nothing less. After what seemed like hours, Alice watched as a few Ravenclaw girls walked towards their own beds, talking about her brother. It seemed Xavier had stuck again, yet this time they saw him with Tzipora. Alice's thoughts quickly changed to wonder what her younger sibling was up to. Yet, before long, her head had hit the pillow and she was out.
The next morning was the day Alice was to go to Hogsmeade with Mason. Butterflies swarmed around her stomach in the early hours of daylight as she hurried to get dressed. For some reason, she felt it neccessary to dress to impress. Well, it wasn't just for some reason. Alice had decided that that day was as best as any to tell him how she felt. How she suddenly had a rush of emotions towards him. If he didn't feel the same way, it would have been awkward... Re-thinking her plan, Alice took a small piece of parchment and wrote down a few lines.
You give me butterflies deep inside. My head spins and I don't know what to do. Your dorky smile and your adorable laugh. Your gorgeous eyes and your perfect voice. The way you hug me makes me want to hold you close and never let you go... -Alice Folding it once, Alice tucked it into the pocket of jeans and slipped on her warm jacket. Looking at herself in the mirror, the young woman pinned the right side of her hair back and let the other side hang lose. It was only then did she make her way down towards the common room door and out of the painting.
As Alice stepped out, her eyes looked towards Mason and they soon fell upon his guitar. The only explanation for it was that he was going to perform. For who, when and why, Alice had no idea. She just hoped it wasn't for another girl. "Good morning." |

as he waited for alice, it seemed like the longest he had ever waited for someone. it wasn't that she took a really long time or anything, it was just his nerves sending his brain into overdrive. so as his mind raced, the rest of time went at a regular pace that just seemed slower than usual. what if she doesn't like the song? what if she doesn't like me? what if she likes someone else? oh god, mason, calm down. you sound like a girl. just.. breathe.. and before he knew it alice had emerged from the painting and spoken to him. it took him a moment to find his voice before smiling widely. "good morning! you ready to go?" he asked, offering his arm for her to wrap hers through, like a perfect gentleman.
"so i was thinking we could make a stop along the way. i wanted to show you something i've been working on, and i'd really like to get your opinion on it." immediately after saying that, it sounded lame to him. damnit, mason. he swallowed hard and licked at his lips before clearing his throat. "but uh, yeah, so i figured we could just stop at the pier by the lake for a little bit and then head out for lunch, yeah?" mason's palms were already sweating. he tapped his free hand on his thigh nervously. everything always came so easily around alice up until this moment. he was just nervous that she was going to reject him after saying she was a great friend, really.
mason had never been very good with words when it really came down to liking a girl. he knew all the right things to say, but he had never had such intense butterflies as alice was giving him at that moment. "you look beautiful, by the way." it wasn't the first time that mason had called alice beautiful, but it felt like it. he made the turn and headed down the stairs, keeping pace with the redhead at his side. he wiped his left hand on his jeans, the cool rush of air once they made it outside causing a chill to go down his spine. he wanted to lift his arm and mess with his hair, but he had spent too much time getting it to actually look presentable to do that.
"ladies first." mason gestured for alice to walk onto the pier first, taking a seat at the very end with his legs criss-crossed. he pulled his guitar into his lap. "i've been working on this since last night, and i'm pretty sure i rewrote it at least ten times. so, uh, be brutally honest if it sucks." with that, mason began to strum his acoustic guitar, the lyrics joining with the music beautifully. the song pretty much summed up a friendship that had turned into more in his eyes, and how he didn't know if "his redheaded beauty" felt the same. "i just wanna know, if she feels the saaaame," he sang the final line and looked up at alice, hope in his eyes that she caught on it was for her

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice couldn't help but blush a little as she linked her arm with Mason's. She didn't understand why she was acting so differently simply because she had grown feelings for him. They would normaly link arms and walk together almost every day, but today just seemed... different. "A new song? Sure... There was something I wanted to tell you as well, but it can wait until after the song." Alice had smiled at this point and closed her eyes as the cool wind hit her face. "And you look rather handsome. What's the occassion? Getting all fancy for someone special?" She didn't actually want the other to answer that question. It would have either broken her or made her happy, and she wasn't willing to be hurt just yet.
When they arrived on the pier, Alice sat down on the seat directly infront of Mason. Yet it wasn't the concert she was hoping it would be. As he began to strum, the young woman thought that the words were going to be for her. Either that, or something completely off the topic of love and friendship. Yet when he began to sing, her world came crashing down. The piece of parchment she was going to give him remained in her pocket, and her eyes diverted to look towards the water. "It was beautiful." She had spoken softly. "I'm sure she'll like it."
Standing up, Alice tucked her hands into her jeans pocket and sighed. So it wasn't for me... What's the point of me telling him, if he's in love with someone else. Someone else who was a friend that turned into something more. A few tears slipped passed her eyes, yet the young woman brought a hand to her face and wiped them away before turning back towards Mason. "Whoever you wrote that song for, she'll love it. And that's my honest opinion."
Turning once more, Alice placed her hand back into her pocket and produced the small piece of parchment. Without taking a glance at it, she tossed it into the water like it was a piece of bread to feed the ducks. "I'll go get us a table, if you wanted to find her and talk to her." Beginning to walk away, Alice waited until she was out of earshot to let a few more tears slip by. How could I have been so stupid? I'm just a great friend that's all I'll ever be. |

the entire day felt weird from the moment that mason woke up. everything was just unsettling, whether it was the nerves or his brain telling him that this whole thing was just a mistake. alice was his best friend, after all. he shouldn't have feelings for her, right? he's not meant to be her prince charming. but the thought of anyone else taking that position before he could just frightened mason to no extent. he didn't want to have to share alice with anyone else, because she was his first. "alright, sounds good to me." he smiled widely, wrinkles on the sides of his eyes forming. "i guess you could say that it's for someone special." mason was trying to throw hints like there was no tomorrow, but the thing about his friendship with alice was that it was always like that. it was hard to hint "hey, i have feelings for you!" unless he wrote it in big red letters across his forehead.
"it's beautiful. i'm sure she'll like it." that wasn't what mason had wanted to hear. he was hoping somewhere along the lines of alice liking it, not saying that someone else would like it. maybe it was fate. maybe he just wasn't meant to tell alice how he felt. he watched alice closely and he could tell that she was upset. why, though? was whatever she had to tell him something completely tragic. before he could even ask her though what she had to say, she had walked off. mason flung the guitar back around to his back and he jogged to catch up with alice. "hey. i asked you to spend the day with me, didn't i? there's nobody else i want to be with right now." he noticed a tear and her cheek and stepped in front of her, pausing their movement.
he lifted his hand and wiped her tear with his thumb. "hey.." he lifted her chin so that he could look her in the eyes. "you know you can tell me anything, right? what is it that you wanted to tell me? is that what's upset you?" mason felt guilty for not asking her to tell him what it was she had to say first. he caressed her cheek gently with his hand, concern written all over his face. he hated to see alice like this. she was always so happy, and it broke his heart to wonder if he had been the cause of a tear to escape from her eyes. "you're too pretty to cry, alice. let's get lunch and talk, yeah?" he smiled reassuringly, though his heart was aching.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice felt like she was in a black hole. She had heard the song that Mason had sung to her, yet she knew that it was for someone else. He wouldn't have that strong of feelings towards her. She was merely going to say that she had feelings for him, just to get it out in the open and off her chest. In some way, Alice hoped that the other would turn around and become the prince charming that she knew he was. Yet when his lips sung those words, her heart broke a little to think that there was someone else. Someone else that had come into Mason's life. She missed the chance of being more than just his friend, and now she had to watch as this other - nameless - girl came in and took away her prince charming.
"No, no. It's fine." Alice had spoken, sniffing and offering Mason a weak smile. As he wiped away her tears, the young woman remembered back to the time when Trent had broken her heart. Mason was the only one there for her and had wiped away many of her tears. It was a miracle that his shirt hadn't been completely soaked. From that day, she knew - well, thought she knew - that Mason would never be able to make her cry. But now, it looked to be he was the main reason she was crying. "Sure."
Stepping around Mason, Alice wrapped her arms around her chest and walked up the small pathway towards Hogsmeade. Usually when her and Mason would walk together, she would link arms with him and they would walk together. However right now, it just didn't feel right in the back of her mind. She had feelings for him, yet he had feelings for someone else. Thus it just wouldn't feel right if she were to do any of the things she used to before Mason gave her butterflies.
Reaching The Three Broomsticks, Alice turned on her heels and waited for Mason to join her. Please don't let this mystery woman be in there... I would just like one more outing with Mason before she is all over him. |

no matter how many girls mason dated, alice was always there. she was there when they left him, but he never told her the whole story. how the girls were jealous of the way he looked at alice and not them, of how he walked down the halls with so much confidence whenever alice was by his side, of the fact that not even his cat would give anyone else a chance but her (which mostly just angered a few girls because nova was just a cat in their eyes). he always thought it was stupid, that he would never be good enough for alice. though no matter all the courting and hoping to be a girl's prince charming, mason was usually left emptyhanded and sitting next to alice in the room of requirements in front of a fire, questioning what it was exactly that he did wrong. then by the end of the visit the girl was completely forgotten and he and alice had a new inside joke of sorts.
mason always just felt like he could be himself around alice, from the very first day that they met. but in that moment he just felt awkward. like everything that could have gone wrong was going to. he had poured his heart and soul into the song, and alice thought that it was for someone else. he had hinted at her in more than one way, but she didn't see it. he mentioned flying away, her red hair, how comfortable he was around her, but it all just went in one ear and out the other apparently. maybe he should have gotten the flowers for her too, like he had planned. mason frustratedly lifted his hand and shook it through his hair, messing up what took him forever. what was the point of impressing her if she didn't feel the same way?
he stared at the ground as he walked, but when they reached the three broomsticks mason stepped ahead of alice and opened the door for her. "after you," he offered, shutting the door behind him after they both had entered. it was fairly busy, but mason spotted a little table for two open in the corner. he headed towards the table and pulled alice's chair out for her as always, before taking his own seat. "alice.. please tell me what's wrong. it breaks my heart seeing you so upset." he leaned his elbows on the table, leaning his face against one of his hands to prop it up. "you're too beautiful to be sad." he pursed his lips before leaning back in his chair somewhat comfortably. his hand lifted to run through his hair again, scratching at the back of his neck nervously for a moment. "was it the song? i knew i should've stuck with the original version. bloody hell." he pulled his rolled up parchment out of his pocket with the lyrics to the song on it. on the top, it was titled we'll fly to wonderland and written just under that was to: alice mournet, from: mason walsh. he unrolled it and placed the paper in front of alice, the original copy written out on front and the one he had played on back. "i knew it was a stupid idea. i should have just bought flowers."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Stepping into The Three Broomsticks, Alice looked towards Mason before moving towards the small table in the corner. She sat down and stared at the other's face as he began to speak. Please don't tell me about the original version... It probably had her name in it. I don't want to deal with this anymore, please... Just forget about it. Her elbows rested on the table and she placed her forehead within her hands as her gaze moved down towards the table. It wasn't that she didn't want to look at Mason, but the simple fact that after today there would be another woman wrapped around his neck made her sick to her stomach.
Whenever he would date someone, the young woman would always seem to squeeze themselves between Alice and Mason while they were walking or during class, or anything. Sure, Mason still made time for Alice, yet the other girls often became jealous and tried to take up all of his free time just for them. Alice knew that the other girls were jealous, yet she didn't know to what extent. She didn't know that she was the main reason for the girls breaking up with Mason. Nor did she understand why anything would make them leave him. He was, for lack of a better word, perfect. Well, in her opinion anyway.
Looking down at the piece of parchment that had slid underneath her, Alice's eyes widened. She read the title then the line underneath it. At first, she thought that it was just something he had written there, but as she read over the original song, she noticed that her name had been inserted into almost every line. "Thi-... I-... What?" Rubbing her forehead, the young woman looked from the piece of parchment to Mason then back again. She turned the lyrics over and noticed that the version he sung to her was exactly the same, just missing her name. A light smile came to her lips as she blushed at the thought that the beautiful song, was infact, for her. It wasn't for someone else. The song was for her. Mason felt those feelings for her. If they weren't in a public place filled with people, she would have leapt into his arms. "Mason..." |

mason would do anything in the world to see alice smile again. he would crack as many lame jokes or corny pickup lines as it took, because he knew eventually he could get her to smile. she was his best friend, and seeing her upset always brought an ache to his heart. sometimes he wondered what she thought about when she flew, and if she watched him run like he did when she was a bird in the mornings. he wondered if the butterflies were just one sided, or if when they held hands her hand tingled a little bit as well at the touch. he had always pushed the thoughts aside, feeling as if she deserved someone who was perfect, because he wasn't perfect in the slightest. he was forgetful and clumsy, and probably a bigger cheeseball than most of the population of teenage girls. alice stuck around, though, through thick and thin.
he never said anything, but he hated when his girlfriends thought they had the right to try to shove alice out of the picture. of course, he was generally whipped so he just let them stand between the two of them in the halls or in class, or he would sit somewhere else at the gryffindor table to be near whoever he was dating. he did everything he could to see a smile on girls' faces, but he couldn't please everyone, especially when his best friend was an adorable redhead who he spent almost every waking moment with. he wasn't about to break tradition of saying goodmorning to her every morning or walking with her to class just because some other girl had come into his life. and that's what, eventually, led to the downfall of his relationships. it's why people told him that he and alice were perfect together.
"i wrote it for you, after everything yesterday. i felt horrible calling you a great friend, because you're so much more than that. i'd be nothing without you in my life, alice." he smiled weakly, nervously, and tapped his feet on the ground. mason was having a bit of a hard time sitting still as he tried to think of what exactly to say. "it's always been you. i guess i was just too blind to see clearly. i figured.. you deserve to find your perfect prince charming, and i never considered that that could be me until recently. and that's when i realized.. i don't want anyone else to be your prince. i want to be him."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice couldn't help but smile like some retard as Mason began to talk about how he wanted to be her prince charming. Taking out a pen, Alice wrote down five little words in the left hand corner of the piece of parchement; I feel the same way before turning it and sliding it across the table for the other to read. In that moment, the young woman had no idea what to say or do. The one that she had wanted for her prince charming wanted to be him as well. The one that she had grown feelings for, had also grown them for her. But... Maybe this was all too good to be true. Was Mason actually feeling these things towards her, or was he just trying to make up for what he had said to her yesterday? Alice closed her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows together in thought as she tried to decide which side of her mind to go with.
Moments passed, and Alice still couldn't make up her mind. Re-opening her eyes, the young woman looked towards Mason and offered him a small smile. The smile was filled with concerned, and soon turned back into a frown moments after it had appeared. "Wait, don't read what I wrote down yet... Just, tell me something." Tears began to swell once more in her eyes as she thought what would happen if the answer to her question was no. If all of this was just something out of pity that the other decided to do as a joke. Either way the answer went, Alice knew that the pair weren't going to be best friends after this. They were either going to be something much, much more... Or they would hardly talk again. "Are you serious? Or is all of this because you feel sorry for saying that I was simply a great friend yesterday? Because I don't want to wear my heart on my sleeve again, and have it broken."
After saying those words, the memory of Trent breaking her heart came flooding back and a few tears threatened to slip at the slightest movement. Alice remembered the day like it was yesterday. Xavier had warned her, and it seemed that Mason didn't like him either. However Alice was determined to prove them all wrong, and wore her heart on her sleeve. She did everything in her power to stop the boy leaving. But when he uttered those words; You're not going to get a Prince Charming if you don't put out. she knew it was over. Those words haunted her, and that was why she had never tried to go after anyone else. That was why she was so afraid that Mason was pulling a joke on her. She didn't find it funny in the slightest. |

deep down, mason had always known that alice was the one. he had always feared losing her as a best friend though. he knew that if things didn't work out between them it would just be awkward between them and he would lose his best friend who he told everything to. alice was his everything, and he was more than certain that he wanted her as more than just his best friend. he had spent the last seven years with alice as his best friend, and as much as he loved that, he wanted more. not in a sexual way, but an emotional way. mason had feelings for her, and he wasn't going to stay blind to them anymore. he couldn't. when he saw alice get frustrated, he sat and watched, letting her think. before he had the chance to read what she wrote, she spoke again and it was mason's turn to furrow his eyebrows. he ran his hand through his hair and sighed softly.
"alice rose mournet, i have never been more serious in my entire life." he reached across the table and took her hands in his own. "i've tried ignoring it, i've tried picturing you with other guys, but i just can't." he hated to bring up what he was about to, because he could see how upset alice was already, but he had to say it. "i'm not trent, you know that. i could never hurt you. i care about you. the only person i could ever hurt was trent, and that wasn't emotionally." mason paused, remembering that he had never told alice that he had punched trent. he looked down at their hands and cleared his throat. "uh, there's one thing i forgot to tell you.."
mason let go of one of alice's hands to mess with his hair, making him regretting messing it up in the first place. "i uh, i'm the one who gave trent that black eye.. i heard him talking about you, and i.. i kind of blew up on him. i was going to do worse, but i'm pretty sure he could've put me in the hospital wing." mason laughed nervously, grabbing back onto alice's hands. he really couldn't believe he'd actually told her, but she had the right to know. "i would rather die before i ever hurt you, alice. i can't promise that we'll be perfect or that we won't fight along the way, but i want you to be more than my best friend. i want you to be my girlfriend, and i want you to be my forever. because we're not just best friends, and we wouldn't just be two people dating, we would be both, and that's what makes us perfect together. at least in my eyes." he gave a weak smile. "so what do you say? will you give us a shot?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice had a constant smile planted on her face as she listened to Mason's words. It was almost as if he could see her own feelings and simply speaking them in reverse back to her. However, her smile soon faded when she heard him talk about punching trent. It wasn't that she didn't want Mason to do such a thing, she actually enjoyed the fact that he stood up for her all those years ago; however she didn't expect to what extent he had done it. Alice could never imagine Mason punching someone. That's why she always felt so safe around him. If anyone was to come up to them in at night in Diagon Alley, he would be able to use his words to get them safely away. Furrowing her eyebrows together, the young woman thought about what to do with this new information. It wasn't like she was going to think any less of Mason. If anything, she thought more about him for standing up for her.
Looking up from the table to meet Mason's gaze, Alice looked towards the piece of parchment before speaking. "You want to know if I'll give us a shot? Look at what I wrote." Waiting for a few moments, Alice leaned over and placed a kiss on Mason's cheek. Just a simple kiss that sealed her affections for him. The affections that she had only just realised the other day that they were for Mason and no-one else. Even now, as their hands were touching, she felt nothing more than butterflies fluttering around her stomach and her heart racing at the sight of his smile. She wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around him, and have him wrap his arms around her in a warm embrace.
"Mason, that other day when we were walking to Charms class, I was having an internal battle with myself. Butterflies were swirling everywhere, and I didn't know why. But when I looked at you, they grew in numbers and my heart joined in on the fluttering. That's when I realised that I wanted you to be my prince charming. Others may not think you're perfect, but to me you are. Your dorky smile and your adorable smile. I was looking for my prince charming, yet I was looking in all the wrong areas. But now I know... You're him." Sucking in a deep breath, Alice looked back down towards the table and wondered if she had said too much too soon. Her eyebrows clashed together in thought before she looked back up towards the young man who would be her forever, whether they were together or not.. |

mason had spent the last seven years doing anything he could to keep alice happy and feeling safe. he was protective of her, and he would be devistated if anything were to happen to her. that's why he never quite understood why xavier had a beef with him. he was constantly making sure that nothing happened to alice. then again, he was sure that xavier would think differently of him if he knew that mason had been the one to give trent the black eye, and not some "huge guy" that trent had told everyone had given it to him. mason wasn't one to broadcast to the entire world anything, though, unless it was him courting a girl. and now he realized how wrong he had been to have spent the last seven years courting other girls rather than alice. she was perfect for him, and he realized that now more than ever. he had always feared that if he admitted it, though, he would lose her. and he couldn't dare risk losing his best friend in the entire world.
this was more than just a relationship that would end when the school year ended, and mason knew that. when he looked down at the parchment, mason's smile spread from ear to ear practically, eyes lighting up. before he had a chance to look up, he felt alice's lips on his cheek. he smiled even brighter, if that was even possible in that moment. he didn't lean in to kiss her, or try turning his face when her lips were on his cheek. mason was too much of a gentleman to kiss a girl that soon, even if he had known alice for seven years now. his heart skipping a beat, he rubbed his thumb along the skin on her hand, unable to sit still. mason let go of her hands for a moment and moved his chair to sit on the same side of the table as her, wrapping an arm over her shoulders to hold her close. when she began to speak again, he felt his butterflies double in number, his hands shaking.
mason rested his head on top of alice's, beaming, his eyes close to tearing up with joy. he blinked them away before turning slightly in his seat to look at her, arm still around her shoulders. his other hand lifted to tilt alice's chin up slightly to look him in the eyes. he stared into her eyes for a moment before speaking. "you're perfect to me, alice. you always have been." his eyes never left hers as he continued to speak. "it doesn't matter how long it took for either of us to realize we were looking in the wrong places, because we have each other now. i'm more than willing to be your prince charming, so long as i have you as my princess." he kissed her gently on the forehead, but only for a small moment before pulling back to look her in the eyes, a gentle smile spread across his lips.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION~ Alice had always somewhat compared the guys she had small crushes on to Mason. The young woman had never understood why, but they hardly ever measured up to the standard that he had created. Sure, at the time, they were just friends and that's all Alice had thought she would think about him. However he had created such a standard as a best friend that the males she thought she had feelings for, simply didn't compare. When she had realised, however, that the feelings were actually for him and no-one else, Alice was - in one word - scared. She didn't want to reveal her feelings too quickly, or even at all, if it had meant the loss of her best friend. If she were to lose Mason, her world would come crashing down. There would be no more sun, no more air. No more Mason, meant no more Alice.
Upon watching Mason move his chair around to her side of the table, Alice couldn't stop smiling and rested her head on his shoulder as she spoke. She felt his hands begin to shake as she continued speaking, and it only made her smile brighter - if that was possible. Mason was everything she was looking for. A best friend, and a Prince Charming all rolled into one cuddly, adorable, dorky teddybear. As he lifted her chin, Alice smiled and closed her eyes for a brief moment to simply listen to his words. The words from his lips that she longed to place on her own. Alice was the type of girl to wait to be kissed. Apart from a kiss on the cheek, she would wait until the boy was ready to kiss her. Trent had been the only boy she had actually kissed, and he did it at the wrong time. Alice wasn't ready, and had thought that Trent would have known when she was, yet he dove in basically as soon as her agreeing to be his girlfriend slipped from her lips. But not Mason. He was a gentleman, and as much as Alice longed for their lips to touch, she would wait until they were both ready.
"I would like nothing more than to be your princess, and only your princess until the end of time." Opening her eyes once more, Alice stared into Mason's and her smile grew wider. The way his eyes sparkled made her body tingle and feel numb all over. Everything about him made her tingle. When she felt his lips on her forehead, the young woman smiled and rested her forehead against his chin. Pure bliss pumped through her veins as tears began to stream down her cheeks. Alice had never been this happy, and she would have destroyed anyone who tried to ruin it for either of them. |
