we've got no money but we've got heart,, It was a little before suppertime when Kieran began to grow restless. He'd been out of classes for a full hour and had sat down in a futile attempt to get some of his mounting school work done. But it wasn't long before his attention span began to dwindle and his eyes began to wander. They fell upon his football and his muscles stiffened. Guiltily he looked back at the empty piece of parchment and the open book in front of him, then back at his ball. And then he knew it was over.
He shut his book with an enthusiastic thud and scraped his chair back abruptly, causing the portrait he was sitting under to wince. Quickly he picked up the ball and then his broom for good measure and headed outdoors.
Quidditch practice was either over or hadn't started yet, and the pitch was pretty deserted. This was fine by him; he didn't need anyone else to practice. That was the joy of being a wizard; charm your ball and it'll come back to you after you've kicked it. The trick was getting it to come back to you at the appropriate speed; sometimes it came hurling back and suddenly you find yourself playing a game of dodgeball against the fates. And it had happened to him on multiple occasions, and caught him by surprise on one particularly nasty occasion which resulted in a broken nose. Since then he really took the time to get the charm right straight off the bat.
But he didn't have to worry about any of that just yet. He was content just to juggle the ball on his own for a bit. It was a great party trick; it looked impressive and could become instantly interactive. Plus you didn't have to spend any time looking daft as you wait for your ball to come rolling back to you. A bit of company would have been nice, Kieran thought, just to have someone to talk to and give the ball a kick around with.
He tossed the ball up in the air, careful to keep his wand in his jumper sleeve so that he wouldn't accidentally snap it, and caught it on his knee, bounced it back up to his chest, then let it drop to his feet, where he bumped it between his left and right feet for a few counts before shooting it back up and catching it again on his chest, repeating the cycle all over again.

even the simple rose smells sweet,, A rogue quill had made it's way onto the piece of parchment which Alice had been writing down notes and smeared it's ink over a few of the words.
"Stupide! Stupide! Stupide! Stupide! Plume Silly, pourquoi ne restez-vous pas à votre place?"
A pale hand had swung down and swept up the white feathered quill before hurling it towards the wall of her dorm room. A few other Ravenclaw girls looked up from their studies only to have the firey red-head's glare shot in their direction. Although the shy, quiet girl was known to keep to herself; it was also known that if she shot you one of her glares, you would leave her the hell alone. Something always had to be terribly wrong in order for a glare to occur. Simply because Alice wasn't that type of young woman.
"Calm down Ali. It's not like this is finals or anything."
After those words were spoken, Alice had stood from her chair and made her way over to the wardrobe. If they didn't want to study with her, she didn't want to study with them. Placing a large black cloak over her body, the young woman moved out of the room and walked down the stairs towards the Common Room. It wasn't uncommon for her to simply sit by the fire and think to herself. She would think about classes, or she would think about a story completely off the top of her head. A small, mischievious, smile came to her lips as the female moved over to the window and opened the glass. Transforming into her crow form, the female flapped her wings and began to fly around the Hogwarts Castle.
The wind blew through her feathers; and for a brief moment, Alice closed her eyes to feel the coolness of the air. It wasn't long until her eyes opened once more and she spotted someone on the Quidditch Pitch. Is that... Kieran? Turning, the female landed on the grass, hidden from his view, and transformed once more into the young Ravenclaw girl.
"Stick of studying, are you?"
Her voice came through a little louder than she had initially wanted, and the French accent flooded each word that left her mouth. The two had been friends through Mason, and the two had grown to become study-buddies. Well, more-so Alice tutoring Kieran with the subjects he struggled with. Besides, he also provided her with a good laugh here and there.

we've got no money but we've got heart,, Kieran was startled to see Alice appear, seemingly out of no where, and her voice made him jump a bit, the ball dropping awkwardly away from his reach. With Alice it sometimes seemed as though she was perfectly capable of just appearing and disappearing at will, with no explanation as to how she obtained this level of super-stealth. It was especially astounding given the extremely bright ginger color of her hair, which appealed to him immensely, but didn't seem especially good for being inconspicuous. Grinning a bit he turned to face her more squarely, walking backward a few paces in order to reclaim his football.
"Studying? Wots that?" he asked, grinning as he kicked the ball up to his hands. "But seriously, ah'm surprised tae see ye out in the sunshine, likes. Thought fun might send ye into anaphylaxes, like," he teased, taking few steps closer to her now. The French accent was as alluring to him as her bright hair color and intense capacity to surprise him, all of which were enough to keep his interest longer than with most.
He appreciated Alice, though, for her willingness to put up with his frustrating attitude toward school. She, above most anyone else, seemed to do the best job with him, although he suspected that it was because she wasn't some silly, trifling girl who only wanted to help him so that they could spend time getting to know him, or try and make him some sort of charity case who was cute, but just too stupid to get it done on his own. Alice didn't make him feel like that, although he was pretty sure that she was more tightly wound up than anyone else he'd ever met. But there was something about her that actually made him want to try with his studies, perhaps if only not to frustrate her.
There was no reason for him to be distracted with Alice. He didn't question her motives as he did with others, and he enjoyed her company for its stark opposition to his own. To be honest he just wanted to slip her some MDMA every now and again, if only to chill the lass out a bit. Sometime he would get her sufficiently shitfaced, though. He liked to see it as a give-and-take with the two of them; she helped him succeed academically, and he wanted to help her unwind. Unfortunately, getting people to unwind was often much easier than helping people to get serious about things, and so he still felt intensely inadequate in that department. But she didn't seem to mind, at least not that he could tell, and he was immensely grateful for that.
"Ken how tae play footy?" he asked, holding up the soccer ball curiously. "Its me... second most favorite way tae take the edge off, likes." The first, obviously, was to get incredibly, belligerently intoxicated, but he figured that that was both common knowledge and, currently, wildly inappropriate.

As Alice heard Kieran's words about studying, her lips parted and allowed a small laugh to escape. "Honestly what am I going to do with you, young Kieran? What do those other 'tutors' of yours teach you? Actually... I don't want to know." The girl knew she was the only tutor who actually cared about his schooling; as she had heard countless times from the other tutors he had, that they would spend a few minutes on work then the rest trying to get into his pants. It sickened her. Why would you jepordise someone's grades, for sex? Maybe if I had done it with Trent, I would have felt differently about it... But I didn't want to do that... He wasn't, nor ever will be, the one I want to give myself to completely. Sighing slightly at her thoughts, the young woman looked back over towards Kieran and offered him a small smile as he spoke about her being out in the sunshine.
"I'll have you know that I enjoy being in the sunshine. Doesn't matter the season, I love it." Tilting her head up towards the sky, Alice raised a hand to block the sun that cascaded down onto her face and her eyes closed for a brief moment in order to enjoy the warmth of the sun's rays. If it wasn't for Kieran, the young woman would have been back into her crow form and flying around the castle, taking in the views and feeling the beautiful wind as it rustled through her feathers. "Trust me, you have no idea how much I love the outdoors."
Looking back towards the young male, Alice smiled and raised an eyebrow. "I have a brother, large backyard and a father who is obsessed with sports... So no, I don't know how to play." Stepping towards Kieran, the young woman removed her hand from her face and instead grabbed the ball off him before deciding it would have been better if she kept her runners on her feet rather than taking them off. Letting go of the ball, Alice began to kick it around in a circle around Kieran and a small smile came to her face. "I thought you said you wanted to play, not just stand around."
Upon waiting for him to move, Alice kicked the ball as hard as she could and ran after it. Her speed wasn't that great - without wings - yet she managed to keep up with the ball and soon had it turned around so she was running at Kieran. For the girl who was all about studying and finding a prince charming to sweep her off her feet, she certainly knew a thing or two about football.

we've got no money but we've got heart,, Kieran grinned, leaning in a bit toward her. ”Well, theres the obvious answer. Ye could always fock me, but ah dinnae ken how much that would help me studies. Actually, probably best if ye didnae dae that. Ah already get tae distracted by your tits, shagging me would only make it worse.” He grinned a bit, though it wasn’t totally a lie. Even if her rack wasn’t the most bumping in the school, it didn’t mean he couldn’t appreciate it.
It was almost like her complete devotion to helping him study made her the only girl (who was willing to tutor him on a regular basis) that he actually had put some serious thought into trying to seduce. Not in an unkind way, certainly—it was more curiosity than anything. Probably because she’d never really tried, but also because he knew it wouldn’t happen. She was too good for him, that much was blatantly clear. Not because she made it clear, but just because it was. She was classy, hard-working, ambitious, benevolent. He was lazy, self-absorbed, poor, vaguely addicted, and probably not going to amount to much of anything as a result.
”Wouldnae huv guesed, s’aw,” he replied with a shrug, a big grin spreading across his face nonetheless. ”And ah guess not. Probably because most ay our time together is spent hunched in a miserable, damp room over miserable, musty textbooks. We should take our study sessions outside sometime, yeah?”
Whether or not Alice was being sarcastic was a bit lost on him. The accent/language barrier thing on both ends was enough to confuse him even when he was the one doing the talking, and in this case had left him a bit delayed in responding. As a result Alice was already far past him and he grinned, pleasantly surprised by this turn of events. Finding a person, lad or lass, in this school for people who apparently hated fun who knew how to play football was almost an impossibility, and he was more than happy to have someone to commune with on that level.
”Ye cheeky bitch!” he said jovially, jogging after her. He realized that there were heaps of things he simply didn’t know about Alice, though he was becoming increasingly keen on figuring out what those things were. Suddenly she was running in his direction again and he turned his head down a bit, trying to tone down his enthusiasm so as not to unintentionally injure the lass. He had the tendency to do that—get overexcited and throw much more force into something than he’d intended, like a Great Dane puppy trying to play with a toddler.
He moved at her, though, and once he was several feet away stopped on the balls of his feet, trying to gauge the direction he was supposed to go in. ”Oh, ah’m going tae play,” he said intently, ”But unless we’re just going tae play keepaway, we need goals. Between the two center flags on that end ay the pitch and roughly the same area at mid-field?” he asked. The Quidditch pitch wasn’t exactly well set up for football, but it was the closest alternative he had. Regardless of whether or not she chose to agree he lunged forward, aiming with his left foot to make contact with the ball and trying to avoid making aggressive contact with Alice. ”Ah’ll go easy on ye for the start, if ye like…” he added, though he ended up sounding more conceited than kind.

Between short breaths, Alice smiled and looked up as Kieran spoke about taking their tutor lessons outside. "Maybe... If you're up for it, I can give you a pop quiz now!" She yelled, moving to the side as the male charged at her and made contact with the ball. Laughing, the young woman turned on the balls of her feet and ran after him. She had heard his joke about if the two had just gone to bed rather than study and her eyes rolled into the back of her skull. She enjoyed Kieran's company, he allowed her to un-wind somewhat and relax a little. Sure, she was able to do that around Mason as well, but with Kieran it was just different.
"You can go easy on me if you'd like, but I'm not promising I'll play fair." Stopping in her tracks, Alice removed her wand from her pants pocket and proceeded to flick it in Kieran's direction. A small piece of dirt raised itself just enough to send the male flying to the ground and that's when Alice made her move once more. Running up to where the ball had rolled to, she smiled and bowed slightly. "You didn't say we had to play by the rules. Come on Kier-Kier. You playing or what?" Kicking the ball back towards the other side of the out-lined football pitch, the young woman laughed and jumped over Keiran's body. Following the ball, she continued to run with it and kick it into what she knew to be the goals.
"And the crowd goes wild for Miss Mournet!" Cupping her hands around her mouth, Alice made a mock crowd noise and ran around in a circle while pumping her arm into the air. "And the competition is nowhere to be seen. Maybe they should just give this girl the trophy!" Laughing, the young woman ran over to where the ball had rolled once more and kicked it back to Kieran's direction. "Come on, are we going to play or what?"
{It suuucks, I'm sorry. D:}

we've got no money but we've got heart,, ”Yeah, fock that, lassie,” he said with a laugh, taking off with the ball in his own direction. He was startled out of his pleasant breakaway by his failure of grace, tumbling to the ground with a grunt. ”Oi! That’’s focking dirty, like,” he said, rolling back over, pressing himself off the ground and back into a standing position, watching her dart away. He made a move to lunge after her, though his now-dirty knees were deciding to pitch a fit at him for that movement.
Wheezing softly he grimaced, rolling his eyes as she took off and made herself a goal. ”Aye, ah’m just nae used tae playing with such a cheeky bitch,” he said, meaning that in an entirely affectionate way. He didn’t want to insult her, not really—he’d be out a tutor, friend, and footy pal if he did that, and he reminded himself not to get too aggressive. Physically it wasn’t much of an issue, not for now, but he didn’t want to berate her verbally, either. He liked to keep his lassies happy—keep the positive rumors circulating around more than the negative ones—and this was no exception.
Smirking slightly as the ball made its way to his feet, he began to jog forward, uncertain about what spells she was going to throw his way. He wasn’t big on using magic, especially not in the sacred domain of the footy field, and if he was being honest he wouldn’t even really know what spells to cast. That was the problem with not paying attention—everyone had a leg up on you all the time, and he couldn’t dream to recoup any of that ground at any point in the near future. Especially not against an exceptionally bright, dedicated lass like the one he was currently facing off against.
”By the way, the only trophy prize you’ll be getting will be the one in me trousers,” he said with a grin, thrusting his hips forward mid-step, which almost threw him off balance again. He recovered his poise, if you could call it that, and made his way toward her. As he did he kicked the ball off wide, to her left, and sprinted forward, directly at her.
He calculated the distance well enough to slow down just as he approached her, grabbing her around the middle and taking her small frame in his arms. One hand moved to the back of her neck, a hand tangling clumsily in her hair, the other supporting her as he dipped her down.
Grinning he pressed a kiss firmly on her lips—not a subtle peck, mind you, but a full-on, impassioned kiss—then let her go completely, not paying much attention as to whether or not she’d fallen to the ground or was tearing off after him to kick him where he was most vulnerable. He sprinted off after the ball, kicking in short little bursts to get it closer to the goal line without worry of it getting intercepted by the lovely girl against whom he was currently playing. ”Ye coming, lassie?” he called over his shoulder, not positive as to where exactly she was and not wanting to waste time looking behind himself.

When Kieran spoke about her playing dirty, Alice couldn't help but laugh. "You said nothing about playing fair, Mr. ó flannagáin!" She called back, her hands cupping around her lips in order for him to hear her better. Chasing after the ball, Alice stopped mid-sprint as she heard what the trophy would be. The young woman didn't know if she wanted to continue, or throw the game. Didn't Kieran know that she wasn't like the other girls who were his 'tutors'? She didn't want to fawn over him and then get him into bed. She hadn't even gotten to that stage with a guy yet, let alone simply walk around the castle with it all hanging out for some random guy to just do it to her.
Alice's eyebrows furrowed together at the thought, however continued to smile and proceeded to run after the other. As Kieran turned, however, Alice stopped in her tracks once more and didn't know whether to dodge or to see what the young man would do. As he drew near, the young woman closed her eyes and braced for impact encase he decided to run through her instead of around. The impact, however, wasn't exactly what she had expected.
Opening her eyes when she felt herself dip down, Alice came face to face with her friend and soon felt their lips touching. At that moment, she had no idea what to do. Her eyes widened, and she soon felt herself falling backwards against the ground. Landing with a soft thud, Alice sat up and rubbed the back of her head and arched her chest forward to stretch her back. "What the fuck did you do that for?" Alice asked, turning her head and staring daggers in Kieran's direction.
Alice had only ever kissed a guy once before, and that was after they had been dating for awhile. Apart from that, it had only ever been a kiss on the cheek here and there. But here Kieran was, simply running up to her and kissing her on the lips. Standing up, Alice shook her head and watched as he ran off towards where the ball had rolled. Sure, her and Mason hadn't exactly said they were official yet, but Alice didn't want to be rumoured to be going around kissing other guys behind Mason's back. She wanted to kiss him and only him.
"Let's see how you like this..." Alice had muttered under her breath, bringing out her wand once more. Flicking her wand in different directions, the young woman began muttering a spell in French that her mother had taught her. The ball began turning and rolling in different directions than Kieran was running and soon was rolling in a circle around the boy. Laughing, Alice brought her free hand up to her mouth and covered her lips before bursting out with laughter and falling backwards onto the ground once more. "Have you had enough of kissing girls? Or should I continue to play unfair?" Under any other circumstances, Alice would have probably confessed that Kieran was a good kisser.
If she didn't have Mason, of course.

we've got no money but we've got heart,, Kieran was torn with laughter when she asked what he did that for, shaking his head a bit. ”Ye said nothing about playing fair, Mademoiselle Mournet!” He called back, enjoying the feeling of sending the girl reeling. Why had he done it, though? For the shock factor? To amuse himself? Just to see what it was like, given that he’d likely not ever have another chance?
He supposed it wasn’t terribly out of character to steal kisses from the lassies, but it was a bit concerning that he’d thought to do it with Alice. Alice, who was so chummy with his best mate. Kieran’s heart dropped a bit as he thought about that; was the reason why Mason never wanted to bag any other ladies because he was preoccupied thinking about the very girl Kieran had just kissed? He couldn’t have been sure, and he felt ashamed for not knowing more about his supposed “best mate”’s love life. It wasn’t that he didn’t ask, but the Mason-Alice jokes had gotten old long ago.
But maybe they weren’t just jokes. Maybe he’d just snogged the girl that his best friend had had a crush on for eons. And, if not that, he’d certainly just snogged the competition for the best-friend spot in Mason’s life. Sighing as his short-lived epiphany came and went, and then it was gone from his mind. He re-focused on the game, though it seemed as though Alice wasn’t entirely thrilled with his impulsivity.
She began to manipulate the ball to roll away form him, and he rolled his eyes. He wasn’t even going to bother chasing it around like some deranged dog. She was on the ground again, however, and he rolled his eyes, jogging over to her. Lying down in the grass next to her he looked at her, laughing a bit. ”Ah think ye liked it,” he said, huffing a bit from the running. God, he needed to stop with the smokes. It was really impairing his cardiovascular capacity, and if he wanted to be a pro footy player, there was no way that he could keep smoking like a chimney.
”Aw ah kin say is that if ye keep playing unfair, ah’m going tae keep playing unfair,” he said, rolling over on top of her but holding himself up with his arms so that he wasn’t actually touching her, his knees on either side of her but without it pressing himself against her. He wasn’t looking to traumatize or sexually harass his poor tutor, but he did want to have a bit of fun with her, even if that meant teasing her. ”We both ken that ah’ll never huv enough ay kissing lassies, love,” he said lowly, training his eyes on hers, ”But if we kin agree tae play fair, ah think we wont huv any more problems with me lips accidentally blowing your mind.”

[/style][style=width:400px; text-align:justify;]most of mason's free time was dedicated to either running laps around the lake or tutoring the younger year students, but today he was completely open since he'd gone running in the morning and had no sessions. he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do with this newfound freedom, because kieran wasn't around. on any normal occasion he'd find his best friend and ask him if he wanted to get drunk, but the boy was nowhere to be found. one of the girls said that she saw him leaving with a football, and that's when mason knew where he would find his closest friend.
mason had yet to actually step foot on the quidditch pitch this year, so it would be nice for a change, that was sure. mason loved the outdoors, and he didn't get enough time spent outside than he'd like. as he exited the castle, a smile grew upon his lips as he took in a deep intake of the fresh air, exhaling rather loudly. he started heading towards the quidditch pitch, hoping that kieran would still be there with his football. he hadn't played a game against the boy since the previous summer, which was a shame. he knew exactly what he was going to bet, too: who would pay for the drinks.
when he arrived at the quidditch pitch, mason wasn't quite sure what he was seeing. he saw kieran hovering over a girl, who was laying on the ground.. and that's when he saw her hair. mason knew exactly who kieran had pinned, and suddenly his happiness flew away. "what the bloody hell?!" he shouted, unable to get himself to move any closer to the two of them. he stood ten or so feet away, and his arms were now crossed over his chest.
everyone knew that mason was protective of alice, but mason had never claimed her as his own. that was all his own fault, really, but that didn't change the fact that he had smoke fuming from his ears, metaphorically of course. mason lifted one of his arms and ran his hand through his hair, which the wind had thrown in all which directions. he felt as if he was doing that more and more lately when he got nervous, messing with his hair. in that moment, he had no idea whether he should feel betrayed, or just furious.

As Kieran came to lay down on the ground next to her, Alice had smiled and turned her head towards him. Parting her lips to speak, she soon shut them when he had suddenly hovered over her. Words were escaping her, and she had no idea how to react. Slap him? But he wasn't technically do anything wrong. If he went in for another kiss, she would have slapped him. Closing her eyes for a brief second, the young woman thought that if she showed her dislike for him being there, he would soon remove himself and lay back down next to her. However when her eyes were closed, the only thing going through her mind was the hope that Mason wouldn't show up.
"Kieran, what are you doing? I swear, if you kiss me again... I won't tutor you anymore. And that won't be the worst of it." Finally opening her eyes once more, Alice heard him speak and her head shook. His lips didn't blow her mind. It was the second kiss she had ever gotten, thus how was she actually meant to compare it? Sighing slightly, Alice just wanted to remove herself from the situation and fly away. But then the people on the Quidditch field would see her. Raising her hand, the young woman rested her arm over her eyes and tried to block everything out. There was one thing she couldn't block out though. The sound of Mason's voice.
Removing her arm, Alice turned her head and saw the handsome face of Mason, yet it didn't hold a smile the way it should. She heard the hurt in his voice, and she couldn't help but shake her head. Resisting the urge to pound on Kieran's chest to get him up, Alice sucked in a deep breath before speaking. "Mason, it's not what it looks like." Finally pushing Kieran off of her, the young woman sat up before standing and taking a step towards Mason. "Please, you have to believe me."
The young woman could feel tears beginning to swell in her eyes. Sure, her and Mason weren't going out, she didn't even know if he had feelings for her. All she knew, was that this may have hurt her chances of finally being with her Prince Charming. The guy she knew that to be, was Mason Benjamin Walsh. Yet she couldn't bring herself to step closer to him incase she had hurt him too much.
Alice looked from Kieran to Mason then back towards the ground. By this point in any confrontation, she would have either found someone for support and clung onto them, or simply turned into her animagus form and flown away. Yet Mason was the only one who knew of her secret, and she wasn't about to give it up now. Wrapping her own arms around her body, Alice took a few steps closer to Mason so she was closer to him instead of Kieran. "Mase...?"

we've got no money but we've got heart,, Smiling a bit, Kieran shook his head no. ”Ah wont. Ah promise—ah like ye too much tae make that mistake twice, likes,” he said, pressing up on his arms to sit back, about to roll off of her without doing any collateral damage to her or to his GPA. He heard Mason’s voice and grinned, not sensing the urgency that Alice was radiating. ”Oi! Lad, up for a game ay footy? It’ll even out the teams a bit, likes, what with miss flashy pants over here using her intelligence against me…”
Alice pushed him off and he frowned, forgetting that he’ even been on her in the first place. Standing up he looked from Alice to Mason, realizing slowly that he was in a bit of a clusterfuck. He hadn’t really meant any harm, he was really just teasing. But they were acting like he’d just killed their firstborn child, and he was more than a tad confused.
”Wot the focks the matter with the two ay you?” he asked, confused. He looked from Alice to Mason, Alice looking guilty and Mason looking furious. He hadn’t even been doing anything, for fucks sake! And if the two of them were together… well, Kieran would have known. There was no way he couldn’t know, right? ”Lovers tiff, ah take it? Trouble in paradise with the best mates?” Once again he was only joking, though apparently it was a tad inappropriate. Mostly he didn’t like not being in on secrets, and this certainly seemed like a secret to him. One that he didn’t understand in the least.
Looking again from Alice to Mason, Kieran ran his tongue over his teeth. And then that little epiphany came back, confirmed this time. ”Oh fock me. Ye two. Ye two are focking together. An item. Ah should ay kent it before. Wot the fock, mate. Ah thought we were supposed tae be best focking mates. And best FOCKIGN mates dinnae keep shit like this from one another, yeah?”
Kieran was frustrated with Mason and Alice not only for not telling him they were together, but also for making him feel like a total asshole about it, directly or indirectly. If he’d have known that they were officially a couple and not just doing some weird lover’s limbo, if you could call it that, he never would have teased Alice like that, much less distracted her with his awesome kissing techniques.
”Ah was nae trying anything funny with her, by the way. Ah was just pissing around, likes…” he added, feeling a bit guilty now that he knew what … he thought he knew.

[/style][style=width:400px; text-align:justify;]it took quite a bit to make mason lose his temper, and now that he really thought about it, he really had no reason to be mad. but for some reason, hearing alice say that it wasn't what it looked like, made mason even angrier. any time someone said those words, it usually meant that what it looked like, was exactly what it was. and right then, it looked like his best friends were about to fool around, or at least make out, in the middle of the quidditch pitch. jealousy bubbled up in his stomach, making him feel sick physically, though he didn't show it. "i don't have do believe anything." mason took a few steps backwards, ready to escape if he got too angry.
kieran's attempt at a joke about a lover's quarrel just made mason's glare grow more venomous. of course, the other boy didn't think anything was wrong, probably. mason had never let on that he had feelings for alice, other than the fact that he tended to glare at anyone who showed remote interest in the girl. he did talk about her a lot, though, which should have been evidence enough. then again, she was his best friend, with whom he spent almost every waking moment of his free time with, and had three classes with her during the day.
as soon as kieran finished speaking about mason and alice being together, he got defensive. "we're not together!" he retorted the very second that kieran had finished speaking. that probably made him look even more guilty in the matter. his arms fell from being crossed, down to his sides, and he stuffed them into his pockets. more calmly, he repeated, "we're not together. and we are best mates. mates don't go rolling around on top of other mates, though." the argument seemed valid, though that wasn't why mason was so frustrated. he was frustrated with himself for even getting mad in the first place.
mason ran his hand through his hair, unable to stand still with feeling as horrible as he did about the whole situation. he felt awkward. who was he to stand in the way of kieran and alice being together, if that was what really was going on. "don't let me get in the way, though. you two seemed quite content where you were." mason took a couple more steps backwards, one hand still in his pocket as the other messed with his hair over and over nervously.

Alice dropped her arm by her side as she heard Kieran's joke. It wasn't the time or the place for something like that. The fact that Kieran had called the two an item made the young woman's heart ache even more. She wanted to reach out to Mason and tell him about her feelings, but after all of this, she would be lucky if he even talked to herself or Kieran again. Turning on her heels, she looked towards Kieran and shook her head. "We're not together..." Her words trailed off for a moment before she responded within a whisper. "...Trust me."
Those last two words made Alice want to burst out in tears. After all these years, after all the times her and Mason had stayed up together simply talking, she had finally realised that he was her Prince Charming. He was the reason that she got up in the morning, and the reason why she always had that pang of jealousy whenever he began to court another girl. He gave her butterflies, but now all her butterflies were dead. Just like her dreams of actually curling up in his arms and sleeping in the warmth of the afternoon.
Besides, even if we were together, Kieran would still take him out at night and try and get him a girl to get into his pants. Alice sighed at her thought then turned her attention back towards Mason. As he stepped away, the young woman froze and didn't move. They had hurt Mason. The one thing she didn't want to do in this world, she had hurt him. But then again, how? He wouldn't have felt any jealousy or anger unless he had felt something towards her. Shaking her head at the thought, Alice remembered simply how protective Mason was of her and realised that that was the only reason he was acting this way. Being protective.
"Nothing was happening, Mason." Pausing for a moment, Alice looked towards the ground before speaking once more. "You and I act silly like that all the time, has anything happened between us? As much to my disliking, no. Nothing has. So why is this any different?" Finally raising her head, Alice couldn't keep the feelings in anymore. She had to let them run free.
"Besides, I don't have feelings for Kieran. I have feelings for someone else. But clearly Mason, you're too blind to see it." Turning on her heels, Alice looked towards Kieran and spoke softly. "You said best friends don't keep secrets. Well, here's two. I have feelings for Mason... Oh, and here's the other one." Jumping into the air, Alice turned into her crow form and flapped her wings. She remained in the same spot for a few seconds before flapping her wings and getting away from the situation.
That's what she always did when she didn't know what else to do. Fly away, and not be found for awhile.

we've got no money but we've got heart,, Kieran looked from Alice to Mason again, feeling like a bobblehead in his confusion. He was pretty sure he was going to get whiplash, and was only more confused by the fact that both of them were adamantly stating that they weren’t together. Just as he was about to ask what the fucking problem was, if none of them were involved with any of the other ones, when Mason and then Alice cut him off.
”Ah go rolling around on top ay everyone, to be fair. But this was strictly platonic, yeah? A laugh between friends, like….” He supposed he should have known that Alice was off-limits for that type of play, and he’d done exactly the opposite of what he’d intended—create a fun, friendly atmosphere. In fact, he was pretty sure this was the opposite of fun and friendly. This was hostile and exceedingly uncomfortable.
Kieran was glad that Alice started talking, because he sure as hell didn’t know what to say. Her words gave him no solace, however, and he was stuck in awkward wordlessness for the first time in a very, very long time. Blinking a few times as she morphed into some weird winged animal, a bat or something, he looked after her, intensely puzzled.
After all his time living in the wizarding world, he still wasn’t able to get used to magic. Transfigurations, animagi, weird charms… it was all beyond him, really, and this was no exception. ”Does she do that often?” he asked, ignoring the obvious elephant in the room of the fact that Alice had basically just confessed her love for Mason.
When it felt too uncomfortable for him to not talk about it he looked to Mason, a hand rubbing at the back of his neck. ”Uh…. So… judging by your former reaction to that little…ah, misunderstanding…. Ye feel the same way?” There was no real way for him to address the question any more suavely, but he figured Mason would maybe understand.
”If the answer to that is yeah, by the way, ah apologize for even thinking about coming within twenty feet of Alice, likes, even for waving at her from a focking distance. Ye ken ah’d not tread intae your territory on purpose, no matter how much ay a tosser ah kin be.” Frowning, he glanced at Mason, feeling continually uncomfortable. ”Ah pissin’ love ye too much for that, lad.” Yeah, that definitely made it better. ”Uh… but nae in the way Alice does, likes….”
